Hemp finally received the green light go ahead for consumption late last year on November 12th. Since then, Australia has seen a wide range of new and innovative Hemp products such as value added health foods, cosmetics and clothing hitting the market. This super plant has an extremely long list of benefits but if you are hoping it comes with an extra high, you will be mistakenly disappointed. Hemp contains less than 0.3% of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the psychoactive component of the cannabis plant, meaning there is no risk of psychoactive reaction.
Hemp industry leading ambassador, Tegan Scates, Founder of High on Hemp, commented “It is an incredible journey that is unfolding across Australia within the hemp industry. I am seeing a phenomenal change and acceptance of this plant that is being used in a broad variety of products that are very on trend this year. We are witnessing continued innovation globally and greater consumer awareness of this super plant”.
Being a 100% raw, plant-based, non-allergen, with no additives our Hemp Oil and Protein is a perfect alternative to many salad dressings, gym proteins, flours and oils.”
Hemp seeds are not only good for your health, but great for your skin, hair and nails. Full of healthy fats, their 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, can benefit skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, acne and dry skin.
Beck Howe, from hemp cosmetic brand, Passionate Skin Care, said “Hemp has been the champion ingredient in our SkinFood collection since the day we launched. When it comes to eczema, psoriasis and acne treatment we receive considerable amounts of positive feedback and we always praise hemp for these results.”
The fibre found in the stalks of the Hemp plant are also being used to create Eco-friendly clothing. Compared to cotton Hemp uses less water to grow, does not need herbicides, pesticides or fungicides, has a smaller ecological footprint and the end product is far more durable and long lasting.
Isabella Gillespie from hemp clothing brand, Hemp Temple, mentioned “Not only does the fibre come organically free from toxicities, but there is such an incredibly diverse textile range of Hemp available to the fashion industry. To name a few that excite us, hemp denim, hemp corduroy, hemp silk... almost every textile you can imagine can be made from this wonder plant. Hemp won’t be a niche market for much longer, we are foreseeing a massive boom in the industry from high fashion, everyday wear, activewear to children’s clothes.”
With all three Hemp companies experiencing an increased demand for their products, Hemp is sure to be on trend in 2018.
